Sedona Cohen
Sedona Cohen is an American painter whose work contains mystical alchemical undertones. Through a painting process that alternates between calculated meticulousness and intuitive meditation, Sedona aims to create spaces within which a self-sustaining ecosystem can thrive. These are evolving systems where energetic and visual information emanates from a mysterious divine source. The information is transformed and transmuted through processes that reflect her own personal alchemy. She seeks to explore the spaces where scientific and spiritual inquiry amalgamates, with painting as a tool for seeking answers. The study of electricity, rebirth, healing, the male and female principles of nature, and spiritual systems mapped through dynamic symmetry present in the work of the Transcendental Painting Group is an important source for her practice. Perhaps a painting can help one find what they didn’t know they were looking for. The relationship between what’s contained within a painting and what it references outside of itself allows the painting to store unlimited information. How can the seen quality of an object explore the unseen? Just like us, paintings can hold and share secrets and be teachers. A painting can be a parallel world, a meditation, a calculation, a living organism, a system of networks, storage for information, a tool for posing questions and seeking answers, and a time traveler.
