Esther Deans
When I was 17, I drove to a party in Timaru and the sky was lit by a dull red Aurora Australis. I thought it was the end of the world. That dull red colour haunts me, late at night, wondering whether what we are living through is really the apocalypse.
Esther Deans is a painter based in Huatekerekere, Peel Forest, New Zealand. She has had solo exhibitions at the Aigantighe public gallery, the Ashburton public gallery, and Susan Badcock gallery, among others. She has also been a finalist several times in the Molly Morpeth painting award and the Adam Portrait award, New Zealand. She has a BA in English literature and an MA in painting and is is currently completing her PhD in painting. She lives with her husband, the painter David Owain Jones and has a dream part-time job as a librarian.
