Eliot Shahmiri

Eliot Shahmiri was born in Tehran, Iran. As an artist, he focuses his practice on crisis related news which he projects in an imaginary sci-fi world. Using both press imagery and landscape paintings history, as his starting point. He then quotes, repeats, and changes it. His paintings borrow from the aesthetics of the European Romanticism movement and Surrealism. Located between the past and the future, his art hones in on current events that seem to lead us to a catastrophe. He uses traditional gouache and oil painting techniques for his medium- and large-scale paintings on linen and cotton canvases made in France and built on FSC wooden frames. The colours he works with are also assembled in France and the solvents he reaches for are mineral spirits. The electricity supply of his workshop comes from a self-feeding photovoltaic source while the roof supports a 32 cubic meter water collector.

Eliot Shahmiri lives and works between Paris and Saint-Maixent l'École (France). Granted by the Fondation Vallet, he has been a student in graphic design and art direction at the ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres, before working at Oscar-award wining studio H5 during 3 years. He then led its own bureau Policestudio during 10 years ; working for brands and artists including Daft Punk and legendary label Record Makers ; before starting his painting career in 2022. His firsts exhibition took place in the Consulat Voltaire (Paris) under the curation of Anne Bourrassé, and at the Académie du Climat (Paris) in 2023 during the Anticipation festival.
