Connor Scott

Connor Scott is an artist based in Edinburgh, currently undertaking an MA in painting and history of art at Edinburgh's college of art. Connor's practice with painting is deeply involved in the use of found material, he collects various ephemera including but not limited to comic books, magazines, and old photographs. These are implemented in his work through various techniques involving solvent transfer and collage which the artist will use to layer up a surface, to then edit the image with paint to find a composition. Connor is looking at the histories of palimpsest and pentimento, experimenting with these objects and drawing to attention the memories that they have below the surface. They have secrets as we do, built upon layers that the artist then peels back and allows an open view into. It is this principle of palimpsest, of erasure and replace that is the driving force of Connor’s practice. This imbues his work with a sense of lost meaning – these objects seem to exist as signs of something that used to be, but now only traces of it are intelligible.
