Chin Hui Man

Rooted in the textures of her past, Chin Hui Man's artistic practice explores the fragile intersections of memory, emotion, and landscape. A recent relocation from urban cityscapes to a small village in South West UK has profoundly shifted her perspective. The unfamiliar scenery of rolling hills and winter trees, starkly contrasting her lifelong backdrop of concrete and steel, has awakened a deep sense of introspection. Chin Hui Man combines oil paint with textured cement ground to evoke the rough, tactile quality of her childhood surroundings – the cold, dark cement floor of her former home. This material connection now converges with the rugged beauty of her new environment, stirring an exploration of the human experience. Through this mixed media approach, Chin Hui Man seeks to capture the intimate relationships between memories, emotions, and the landscapes that shape us – reflecting on the tensions between urban isolation and natural serenity, and the resilience of the human spirit amidst change.

UK-based artist Chin Hui Man studied art and design in Hong Kong, commencing her MAFA at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her cement artwork premiered in 'Atopos' (2021), and thumbnail drawings in 'It Should Be Coming' (2021). Chin Hui Man's style combines oil paint, acrylic, charcoal, and pastel on cement ground, exploring memory, emotion, and human experience through moody, evocative pieces.
